Details

I went to NYC last weekend and visited two of my friends and saw three more. It was awesome and wonderful.  At the end of my journey, I took the A line from the natural history museum stop to 125 to catch a bus that would take me to laguardia. As I was waiting for my subway train to come, I noticed lots of details about the station I liked.

NYC subway stations are often filled with cool details like this. Usually, I didn't bother taking pictures, but this little guy made me take out my camera so I could capture him for my cat loving friends:

Isn't he adorable?

Pacman Seascapes

Last week, I put up my sewing machine and set up my work station for painting again.

I'm not very good at painting, but I love cute things and nerdy things. My favorite art blogs are these:

Blow at Life  by Lawrence Yang
He paints really simple colorful pieces with cute characters and creatures in the background. A lot of the stuff I'm trying lately is really trying to copy his style and maybe make it my own one day.

Shadowscapes by Stephanie Law
I've been following her shadowscapes website since I was in 7th or 8th grade. She has a beautiful watercolor layering technique I really want to try but haven't due to my impatience.

Mall, Melissa Haslam, UrsulaV, and Audrey Kawasaki are also really cool. :)

Anyway, I made these two pieces over the weekend. I think of them as Pacman Seascapes  1 and 2.

I don't really have particular attachment to them... so if you want one, comment, email me your address, and I'll mail it to you.

Food for Thought (Feb)

The Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) in St. Louis does nifty free events. On the first Saturdays of the month, they do this thing called Food for Thought. I've been thinking about going and trying free food for a while. I finally got unlazy enough to go today! HUZZAH!

The Game

For those of you who have been to my room/home in the last 5 years have seen the collage that decorate my wall. It's filled with crayon and watercolor scribbles. I often stare at it, looking for meaning, for order even though I know there is none. (The photo is from my sophomore year dorm. I currently have the left one still. The right one I lost track of because my friend took it to keep when we stopped living together.)

I don't know how many know the collage is the result of my bastardized version of The Game. I was introduced to The Game in high school. I think it was around my Junior year (2nd semester or summer after). My friend Sam and I started hanging out then. We read books and poetry together -- I liked reading out loud because at that time I was prideful enough to like the sound of my voice. I started getting to know her family and her friends. She told me about the Blackwells and about her boyfriend's family. One day, she said to me we should play The Game. I like the way she says it: both words are enunciated such that you can hear the capital letters; you can also hear her anticipation and excitement. Once you've heard her say it, there will never be any doubt which game she is talking about.

Salt and Ink

I've been told salt does interesting things for textures of watercolor painting. I kept on meaning to experiment with them. When I did earlier in the summer, I think I went overboard on the salt. I make some pretty backgrounds (which I will paint over and post when I get around to it) and also had a lot of salty ink water.

Two weeks went by and I didn't get around to cleaning my rinse bowl for my brushes. One day, I decided to look at it and was pleasantly surprised:
